Lars Erslev Andersen – Terrorism, insurgency and transnational political communities Studies in transnational links between terrorism in the West inspired by al-Qaida, and the significance of al-Qaida in regional conflicts in South Asia and on the Arab Peninsula. How are transnational political communities developed and interpreted, what part do they play in international relations and what is the connection between insurgency and terrorism? Helle Malmvig (on leave) Julie Pruzan-Jørgensen – Islamic Women's Activism in Egypt, Jordan and MoroccoAccording to popular Western discourse, Islam is fundamentally at odds with the promotion of women’s rights and gender equality. Yet, a new Islamic women’s activism challenges this thinking by advocating the need for and possibility of a home-grown women’s activism, which promotes women’s rights not despite but through Islam. The project, which runs from 2009-2011 explores this new Islamic women’s activism based on findings from Egypt, Jordan and Morocco. Marie-Louise Koch Wegter & Karina Pultz – The Danish-Middle Eastern DialogueMarie Louise Koch Wegter and Karina Pultz is currently working on a report examining the effects of the Foreign Ministry’s communications and dialogue initiatives towards Muslim groups, both domestic and internationally. The project is examining the effects of a range of specific initiatives initiated by the Foreign Ministry, as well as conducting an extensive qualitative study of the partnership programs under The Danish-Arabic Initiative, focusing on the aspect of dialogue. Ann-Sophie HemmingsenAnn-Sophie Hemmingsen is currently working on her doctoral dissertation on terrorism and radicalization in the West. Existing theories on radicalisation and the link between radicalization and terrorism is put to the test, based on three Danish judicial trials and extensive field research in those environments the defendants where affiliated with. The dissertation focuses particularly on the attraction of the environments. |
