Study on fragile situations and aid This study seeks to provide an overview of current debates and central dilemmas in relation to fragile situations. It consists of a synthesis report, four background papers and twelve policy briefs. The study pursued three different purposes: First, to provide an overview of central ideas and discussions in relation to fragility; secondly, to critically assess certain assumptions |
| characterizing contemporary ideas about aid to fragile situations; and, thirdly, to link general discussions of particular development problems with societies and states characterized by fragility. The policy briefs are supposed to satisfy the third purpose. The study was commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with its elaboration of guiding principles for Denmark’s engagement in fragile states and fragile situations. These principles are expected to be published later 2008/2009. The study was one of several inputs into the process of elaborating the principles. The various products of the study have been written by altogether 15 DIIS researcher and 2 researchers from Chr. Michelsen Institute, Bergen. Each paper is the responsibility of its author(s), and there has been no attempt to streamline the contents of the various contributions. |
